  • Liposuction: Why thin cannulas are best

Liposuction is a procedure which extracts fat from targeted areas of the body resulting in surprisingly dramatic body contour changes. It is the most commonly performed plastic surgery procedure and there are several Liposuction techniques based on the amount of anesthetic injected to the tissues, the method used to suction the fat, and the size of the cannula used (A cannula is the long, slender rod which is used to extract the fat).

  • Lip augmentation, duck lips, and Lip lifts

What makes a Lip pretty? While beauty is in the eye of the beholder, there are two characteristics that are found to be common to beautiful lips. Whether fleshy or thin, beautiful lips are often defined by a nice cupid’s bow and by having the perfect amount of space between the base of the nose and the top of the upper lip.

  • How long do fat injections last?

In this video I talk more about Fat transfer, specifically, how long fat grafts last. If you frequent various plastic surgery blogs and portals, you might be aware there is a wide variation in the types of techniques that surgeons are using. Thus, there is a wide variation in their results, and a wide variation in their opinions about whether fat injections are permanent.

  • Fat injections to the face

In this video I talk about the reasons why I often find myself recommending fat grafts to the cheek, and to the face, when patients come to me wanting a rejuvenation of the face… wanting to, in general, look younger. Fat grafts, also known as Fat transfer or Fat injections, are a great way to rejuvenate the face.

  • Exercise or Tummy tuck?

Dr. Ricardo L. Rodriguez sitting behind his desk.

Some patients come in almost deciding between a personal trainer and a plastic surgeon in an effort to get the flat tummy they’re after. Some have already been working with a personal trainer for years, but haven’t been able to get the results they’re really looking for. Some people will not be able to reduce the size of their abdomen to their satisfaction despite very rigorous exercise routines. These people have a separated rectus abdominis muscle and it can only be closed with surgery.

  • Can the Brazilian butt lift be combined with a Tummy tuck?

Dr. Ricardo L. Rodriguez sitting down in front of a world map.

I often hear the question, “Can I have another procedure at the same time as the Brazilian butt lift?”

The answer is yes… and no, depending on the combination of procedures. The Brazilian butt lift already consists out of multiple procedures and while final results are dependent on your surgeon’s experience, skill, and technique, they’re also dependent on the patient following strict post-op guidelines.

  • Brow lift: The new Eye lift

Dr. Ricardo L. Rodriguez showing the area on a patient's face that will be treated.

The most natural way to rejuvenate and refresh the eye area is often to lift the brow so that the upper eyelids resume their natural, youthful position. When we age, the brow droops such that it crowds down on the upper eyelids. Often times people feel like they have excess skin in the eyelids when, in fact, it’s the brow that’s causing the feeling.

  • What is the difference between high profile implants vs moderate profile implants?

Dr. Ricardo L. Rodriguez sitting down in front of a world map.

If you are considering breast augmentation, don’t get too focused on a particular implant size, they also come in different configurations. You have a body type that’s your own and although you might want a 350cc implant, for example, the moderate profile might be better suited for you, or the high profile, and you just might have to go up or down a size depending on which profile you pick and your desired result. The size of the implant will definitely play a role, but implant types and placement is of just as much importance in your decision making process!

  • Breast implant ripples and wrinkling: How to reduce the risk

Dr. Ricardo L. Rodriguez sitting behind his desk.

There are two things that really matter when it comes to breat implant wrinkling, or implant ripples: the consistency of the soft tissue cover and the implant material itself. I know that the issue of implants and visible rippling or wrinkling comes up in implant forums and I often hear it mentioned during consults. In this video presentation I show both saline and silicone implants so you can see how the wrinkling can appear directly on the implant itself as it’s held up. While silicone is more gel-like, it is not immune to wrinkling. I also discuss the gummy bear implant, which has a very stiff silicone consistency, which is recommended for patients with breast reconstruction who have very little soft tissue cover in place.

  • Breast augmentation: Implant selection

Dr. Ricardo L. Rodriguez sitting in a chair.

Breast implants can be quite complicated when it comes to choosing the right fit. For my Breast augmentation patients, one of my roles as a plastic surgeon is to help you choose the best breast implant for your body and for what you want to accomplish. There are more choices to make than most patients originally think and the making the right choices are essential to really getting the desired result that you’re after.
