This African-American woman in her 20s wanted a conservative Lip lift to raise her upper lip so that her lips would be fuller.

This 68-year-old woman wanted to refresh her facial appearance without looking overdone. She was especially bothered by the lengthening of the area between her nose and upper lip (known as the philtrum) which can contribute to a tired or aged look over time.

Dr. Ricardo Rodriguez performed a lip lift using a conservative skin excision just beneath the base of the nose. No muscle was disturbed. Her pre-op philtrum measured 1.9 cm; post-operatively, it was reduced to 1.2 cm, a meaningful improvement that brought renewed balance to her midface. In the after photos, you’ll notice the difference is subtle but powerful. At rest, her upper lip appears more defined and the overall expression less downturned. When smiling, more of her teeth show naturally, and her lips look softly supported without the stiffness that fillers or muscle-altering procedures can sometimes cause in older patients.

Dr. Rodriguez performed an Upper lip lift (Bullhorn lip lift) on this 38-year-old patient. He excised a small amount of skin from the base of the nose which lifted the lip slightly. The final measurement of the space between the base of the nose and the top border of the upper lip was 1.0 cm (10 mm).

The Lip lift lifts the upper lip such that the patient has a more pleasing expression. The original pre-op distance from the vermillion border to the nose was 1.8 cm (18 mm), and the final post-op measurement was 1.2 cm (12 mm).

This 42-year old male had 1.5 cm (15 mm) pre-op distance from the vermillion border (top lip) to the base of his nose. Dr. Rodriguez placed the surgical marking to remove only 2 mm-4 mm of skin (at the base of the nose) to achieve the best shape for the lips. With even just this small amount of skin removed, the distance between his nose and upper lip was noticeably shortened to bring balance to his lower face.

The Lip lift gave this 64 YO female a dramatic transformation. Dr. Ricardo Rodriguez made surgical markings to reduce the long space above the lips to a 1.1 cm (11 mm) distance from the base of her nose.
