Gynecomastia, commonly referred to as “man boobs”, is the enlargement of breast tissue in men. Gynecomastia surgery, also called “male breast reduction”, is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures for men. While some men undergoing this surgery are overweight, many are not. The procedure can be performed under local or IV anesthesia, and most patients return to work within a week.
Baltimore plastic surgery procedures
Dr. Ricardo L. Rodriguez, Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon, specializes in multiple cosmetic surgery procedures, performed in his Quad A accredited Surgery Center located in Baltimore, Maryland. All procedures are performed under local or IV anesthesia with Board-Certified Anesthesiologists.
Baltimore Breast reduction (Reduction mammaplasty)
Breast reduction, or Reduction mammaplasty, is a plastic surgery procedure that removes excess skin and fatty tissue, lifting the breasts and making them smaller. Because it’s often used to relieve pain associated with having large breasts, it is considered reconstructive surgery and is frequently covered by medical insurance.
Baltimore Breast lift (Mastopexy)
A Breast lift tightens and removes excess skin, raising the nipple and breast tissue to create a firmer, more lifted look. Most women have the procedure on both breasts, but it can be done on just one side to correct asymmetry.
The more sagging you have, the more extensive your surgery will be. The surgeon’s technique and skill determine how much scarring you’ll have.
Over time, the skin and ligaments that support your breasts stretch and weaken. This process is sped up with pregnancy or weight loss. A Breast Lift focuses on removing extra skin and repositioning the nipple to give you a more youthful look.
Baltimore Fat transfer (Fat grafting) to the face
Fat transfer, also known as fat grafting, involves taking fat from one part of your body and injecting it into another to restore volume and create a natural appearance. This procedure works particularly well for facial areas like the cheeks, nasolabial folds, jawline, and under-eye regions.
The method restores lost volume due to aging, weight loss, or laser damage. In addition to creating a youthful appearance, the injected fat also nourishes the skin and boosts blood supply.
Evolution of Fat Grafting Procedure
Plastic Surgeons have performed fat grafting for over 100 years. You can read more about the history of fat grafting here.
In the last two decades, advances in fat grafting have made the procedure even more effective. In my Baltimore practice, I frequently use fat grafting to complement other procedures such as the Brow Lift and lower facelift. It is also used as an alternative to the full Facelift procedure.
Baltimore Lip lift (Upper or Corner lip lift)
A lip lift commonly refers to an upper lip lift, a cosmetic surgery procedure that raises the upper lip to create a more youthful, relaxed smile. However, there are two types of lip lifts: Upper lip lifts and Corner lip lifts.
Baltimore Rhinoplasty (nose job)
Rhinoplasty, often called a nose job, reshapes the nose to enhance both its appearance and function. For patients who need adjustments only to the nasal tip, tip plasty focuses on refining the tip without altering other parts of the nose.
When patients need functional improvements, such as correcting a deviated septum, alongside cosmetic changes, septorhinoplasty combines both in one procedure. This dual approach not only helps patients achieve a balanced, attractive appearance but also improves breathing.
Baltimore Otoplasty (ear pinning)
Otoplasty is ear surgery, sometimes referred to as ‘ear pinning,’ and is often performed to change the shape and/or position of the ears. It can be performed on one ear or both ears. In most cases, ear cartilage is reduced so that the ears appear closer to the head.
Ear surgery can create a better balance and proportion while improving the shape or appearance of the ears. This often has a profound effect on appearance and self-esteem. Patients who have Otoplasty often feel free to explore new hairstyles and stop wearing hats to hide their ears.
Baltimore Botox® and Xeomin® injections
Botox is a brand of botulinum toxin type A, a purified substance that’s derived from the bacteria that causes botulism. Other common brands include Botox® Cosmetic, Xeomin®, and Dysport.
Baltimore Eyelid surgery (Blepharoplasty)
Blepharoplasty, commonly known as eyelid surgery, removes excess skin from the upper and/or lower eyelids. This gives you a more refreshed, rested, and youthful appearance.
Baltimore Facial implants (cheek, chin and jaw)
Using facial implants, Dr. Rodriguez can reshape your facial structure and fine-tune the look you want to achieve. Typically, patients focus on one area such as the cheeks, chin, or jaw. However, you can have two or even three types of implants at the same time.
Baltimore Facial fillers (Dermal fillers)
Facial fillers, also known as dermal fillers, consist of synthetic injections specifically designed to fill in wrinkled or uneven areas of the face. While Botox relaxes muscles to soften wrinkles, dermal fillers actively add volume, effectively ”filling in” these areas. Common facial fillers include…
Baltimore Lip augmentation
Lip augmentation is a procedure that gives you fuller lips and can be performed on the upper lip, lower lip, or both lips. The lip can be augmented with your own tissues (Fat transfer) or biological tissue fillers (Juvederm or Restylane). Results with biologic fillers typically last 6-9 months, while your own fat is a more long lasting solution.
Lip augmentation is very popular because it produces immediate results which can be subtle or dramatic. The degree of fullness of each lip (upper and lower) can be controlled as your lips can be injected with different amounts.
If you choose to augment your lips with Restylane or Juvederm, those injections will be performed by Dr. Rodriguez personally.
Baltimore Laser skin resurfacing
Laser resurfacing of the skin is a method to make the skin of the face appear younger-looking. Generally speaking, the laser creates damage to the top layers of the skin, which has the immediate result of a tightening of the skin. The procedure can be performed in an office setting under local anesthesia, or it can be performed in the operating suite at the same time other procedures are being done.
There are now many types of lasers on the market. I am not a fan of laser therapy. I believe that many types of lasers damage adipose stem cells and the tissue matrix. We have seen patients with fat atrophy in the facial area after laser therapy. Over the past 20 years, patients from all over the world have contacted me to repair damage done by various types of lasers.
